7 Pregnancy Photo Shoot Tips from an Orange Maternity Photographer

If you’re thinking about having a pregnancy photo shoot, here are some tips from an Orange maternity photographer (ME!) to help make sure your photos turn out beautifully.

#1 – Location

Pick a location that has meaning to you. It could be somewhere you and your partner love to go on dates, or maybe even where you got engaged. This will make the photos that much more special.

Of course here in Orange County, we have an excellent spread of choices. You could consider a photo shoot on the sand in Laguna Beach, in the hills near Crystal Cove or Saddleback, or even in my studio! If you prefer a park like area, there are several choices of beautiful parks in southern California.

#2 – Pick a Great Time

Make sure you schedule your shoot for a time when you’re feeling good. Maternity shoots can be tiring, so it’s important to be well-rested and comfortable. If you generally feel better in the morning, consider an early morning shoot. Sunset photos always have a beautiful look.

#3 – Wear Comfortable Clothing

You want to be sure to wear something that makes you feel beautiful. You don’t have to go out and buy a new wardrobe just for the shoot, but wear something that makes you feel confident. I have beautiful maternity gowns that you can select from my maternity closet. Several are gorgeous gowns from Sew Trendy.

#4 – Bring the Family (if You Want to…)

For some women, they want to keep the entire maternity photo shoot as intimate as possible with only themselves, the photographer, and maybe their significant other. But if you’re feeling adventurous and want to make it a family affair, consider bringing the kids! As always, it’s your choice and there’s no wrong way to do it.

#5 – Bring Props!

It doesn’t matter if you’re doing a studio or on-location shoot, you can consider bringing props that have meaning to you and your partner. This could be a book you’re reading together during pregnancy, a sign with special meaning, or even an ultrasound image!

#6 – Maternity Photo Shoots are Intimate

You want to make sure you feel comfortable with your photographer. Maternity shoots can be intimate, so it’s important to choose someone you trust.

This is one reason why I love doing a consultation before every maternity photo shoot. It’s our chance to get to know each other and make sure

#7 – One-Time Photo Session Creates Lasting Memories

This is a special time in your life, and it’s very rewarding to be able to capture it as fine art photography to enjoy for years to come. Keep in mind that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a single photo shoot can capture some beautiful memories to enjoy forever.

By following these tips, you’re sure to end up with some gorgeous pregnancy photos that you’ll treasure forever. So go out and book that shoot, and have fun!
