Is The Cozy Comfort of In-Home Session Better for you Than a Studio Photo Session?

Advantages of In-Home Sessions

Familiar Environment:  Some parents have no problem with taking out their 1-2 week old baby.  Some parents don’t feel comfortable with doing that. Some moms are not comfortable with moving yet and some can’t wait to get out of the house.  One of the biggest benefits of an in-home session is the comfort and familiarity of your own home.  You don’t need to worry about packing up all the baby gear and putting the baby in their car seat.

Personal Touch:  In-home sessions can incorporate elements of your everyday life, making the photos even more personal.  The nursery, favorite blankets, and family pets can all be included.

Capturing Real Life: As an Irvine Newborn Photographer,  in-home sessions are perfect for capturing the essence of your daily life with your newborn.  These lifestyle photos have a more candid and natural feel showcasing the genuine interactions between you and your baby.

Considerations for In-home Sessions

Space:  Depending on the size of your house, you might need to clear some space for the photo session.  This can be a bit challenging, but with some planning, it’s definably doable

Fewer Props:  At home, the selection of props can be limited compared to what is available in a studio. If you love babies in bowls or on little beds this you might be happier in a studio.  When I come to your home, I am limited to the amount I can bring and usually bring just one or two props.   If you envision using lots of cute props, headbands, and wraps, this could be a downside.

Expense:  In-home sessions are a bit more expensive than studio sessions.  The photographer needs to gather and pack all of the equipment, travel to your home, and repack all of the equipment again.  Different lighting scenarios also need to be planned for and other obstacles may need to be worked around. This added expense is worth considering when making your decision.

The Professional Touch of Studio Sessions

Advantages of Studio Sessions

Controlled Environment:  Is an in-home or studio photo session right for you?  Studios are designed with photography in mind.  They have perfect lighting and the backdrops and props you might need.  This controlled environment can lead to stunning photos.  The studio is as germ free as possible.  Everything a baby touches  is prewashed.  All surfaced are disinfected between tiny clients.  I only photograph one baby a day and am fully vaccinated for covid, whooping cough and flu.

Artistic Shots:  Studio sessions often include more posed and artistic shots.  If you’re looking for a larger variety of props and those classic newborn photos, a studio session is ideal.

No Prep Needed:  You don’t have to worry about tidying up your home or arranging props.  The studio is ready and waiting, making the experience smooth and stress-free.

Considerations for Studio Sessions

Travel:  You’ll need to travel to the studio, which can be a hassle with a newborn.  However, studios are designed to be comfortable and welcoming for families with babies.

Time: Studio sessions are always scheduled in advance, so you’ll need to be prepared and punctual.  This might require a bit more planning, especially if your baby’s routine is still unpredictable. Is a studio session or in-home session right for you?
